Open-Source Intelligence & Analysis

The information is public. Its significance isn’t always obvious.

Major events generate an enormous amount of publicly available information: official statements, social-media reporting, imagery, local reporting, public databases, machine-readable alerts, video, and secondary coverage. Access is rarely the hardest part.

The harder problem is determining what matters, where it originated, what can actually be established, what remains uncertain, and how separate pieces of information fit together. That is where open-source intelligence becomes useful.

What is OSINT?

Open-source intelligence, or OSINT, is intelligence developed from information that is legally and publicly available. Its value does not come from simply collecting more information. It comes from evaluating provenance, reliability, corroboration, timing, geography, significance, and context — then turning those fragments into a clearer operating picture.

Most firms describe their methodology. DSG publishes the work.

Source discipline

Material factual claims should trace to identifiable evidence or a named source. When support is insufficient, the language should say so.

Reporting is not assessment

What a source says and what DSG assesses are kept conceptually separate so the reader can tell observation, claim, and analytical judgment apart.

Uncertainty stays visible

Reported, corroborated, confirmed, assessed, estimated, and unresolved information should not be flattened into the same level of confidence.

Accountability over automation

Technology and AI can accelerate collection, research, and production. They do not replace defined evidence standards, QA, or accountable analytical judgment.

Corrections on the record

When better evidence changes a conclusion, DSG favors visible updates and corrections rather than silently rewriting the analytical record.
